The Commonwealth's Call to Duty - Advancing modern Commonwealth defence connections

You can listen to the report launch speeches below.

Today the Commonwealth and global security concerns are scarcely mentioned together and yet they have a strong heritage. The Commonwealth works on a myriad of issues, but defence is one area left untapped by policy makers. This report acts as a discussion piece to assess whether there are ways to enhance cooperation in this field to the benefit of all members.

Crucial to the understanding of Commonwealth strategic concerns is that we are looking ahead, not to the past. History provides the backdrop, but ultimately solutions to the Commonwealth’s pressing defensive problems need progressive and modern architecture. The Commonwealth must be better prepared.

With this in mind we have set out three policy proposals:

  1. Establish a Commonwealth Security Forum (CSF)
  2. Create a Commonwealth Military Scholarship
  3. Upscale Commonwealth officer exchange programmes

The Rt Hon. Dr Liam Fox MP, Secretary of State for Defence 2010-11, kindle wrote the foreword to the report. You can download a copy of the full report here and the two pager summary here.
